  |About Us

Robert Dove has been crafting quality furniture for over 30 years and is synonymous with high quality
wood crafting. Our team of experienced skilled craftsmen produce woodwork to the highest standards
using traditional methods. Much of the work is bespoke, designed and crafted in conjunction with our
clients’ requirements.
All work is carried out at our premises in Norfolk, UK. We are proud to state that all our work is truly
British. Each piece is unique, crafted and tailor-made to suit our clients’ design and budget.
High quality furniture can only be produced with attention to detail through every stage of the
crafting process.
Starting with timber selection, we use new, seasoned and kiln dried hardwoods, ‘mainly English Cherry,
English Oak and English Sycamore. Timber for each component is carefully selected for grain pattern to
provide the exact character for the item.
Milling of the timber into the correct widths and thickness, whilst carried out on modern machinery, is
no different to generations past, who utilised the most modern equipment of their time.
Machining adds tenons, mortices and moulding detailing to the components.
At the Cabinet stage, the traditional had crafting skills still prevail. Cutting of dovetails, hanging and fitting
of doors, intricate inlays and carving are all done by hand. These skills just cannot be replicated with
machinery but require highly skilled craftsmen.
The finishing process is all done by hand. Various stains, sealers and lacquers are applied to the timber,
which is then toned, sanded, burnished and waxed. The finish achieved is very tough and pilable, capable
of withstanding all reasonable use. Neither hot cups nor water spills will damage it. As with any product
the achieved finish compliments all prior work and provides exemplary furniture to an extremely
high standard.
Continuity of craft skills is very important part of our operation and through our in-house
cabinet-making academy, we ensure that our skills are passed through generation-to-generation
of craftsmen.
